In a break from the norm i have decided to actually try and paint a 40k army. Ive painted an awful lot of fantasy armies recently, mainly for events, which gives me the push to finish them.

So, having intended to get involved with the Tempus Fugitives 'Age of the Emperor' campaigns for a while, im finally going to pull my finger out and paint a nice pre-heresy army.
My Legion of choice is the 19th Legion Astartes, the Raven Guard!
This is partly because i like the imagery of the legion, but also because MkII Crusade armour looks awesome in black! (And also black armour is relatively simple to paint).
I have started with a 5 man Tactical squad and a 5 man Assault squad both from Forge World. Pictures coming soon i promise, but for now, a taster of the colour scheme:
